      <image:title>Our Story - The Story of Mapalo.</image:title>
<image:caption>Profound loss and intractable poverty combined to name a small area of Africa “Worthless.” There, in 2005 in a village called Chipulukusu (meaning worthless) in northern Zambia, in the city of Ndola, we found 300 children living a life of bare — if any — sustenance, attending school in a building the size of a 2-car garage. Orphaned by AIDS/HIV and other illnesses (which has claimed more than 15 million lives in sub-Sahara Africa the last 20 years), and with no support, they had no nourishment, no clothing, no school, no medicine, no clean water — no one, it seemed, to care, nothing to provide hope for their lives. We cared, though. And we believed we could provide hope for life. So, in 2005, we created this organization, Hope for Life. We are, simply, a group of concerned individuals committed to helping the children we met build sustainable lives — one child, one meal, one teacher, one water well, one life at a time. And using the nonprofit organization we formed, we can invite you to join us in making a very tangible difference in these 300 individual lives. None of them is worthless.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Our Story</image:title>
<image:caption>Already, we have been able to give enough that the village was renamed Mapalo, which means “Blessing,” and the new school, which was constructed in 2006, Mapalo Morning Glow Academy. We have identified very basic needs: Children cannot concentrate or learn if they are starving; we supply each student a meal of 2,200 calories every day. And we have completed specific “capital” projects: building the new school; constructing a kitchen; digging three fresh water wells; furnishing the school; clothing the children; hiring teachers (there are nine now); even setting up a soccer field with goals. One of our longer term goals is to establish on going relationships with these children and to provide scholarship funds to enable them to go to college, gain meaningful employment and work to reverse the devastation of disease and poverty in their homeland. We have embraced the African model of non-residential orphanages to keep from institutionalizing children and keeping them with their caretakers in a paternalistic culture.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Our Story</image:title>
<image:caption>How can you help? At base, to donate to Hope for Life is, literally, to Give Hope for Life. It is that simple. Every dollar you give provides aid to these children of Mapalo. We offer a number of giving options to serve a variety of charitable visions and styles — from sponsoring the children of Mapalo with a monthly stipend that will feed, clothe, educate, and/or care for him or her; to making a capital donation to one of the on-going projects — the clinic, a well, building a wall for safety, and a block making business. We have also scheduled service trips to Ndola, Zambia to let you meet the children and work there on their behalf. No child is worthless. Please join us. Give Hope for Life.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Phase 2 - Secondary School Sponsorship Children who successfully pass the national exam are sponsored at secondary schools in the city of Ndola, including two of the best schools in the country. Phase 3 - Students Attend Northrise University All students with adequate marks are accepted and educated at Northrise University, Zambia's Premiere University and Mapalo Morning Glow's official academic partner. Phase 4 - Students Enter a Profession to Help Rebuild Zambia The project culminates when students remain in country to serve the needs of Zambia and help to remedy the factors that orphaned them and so many other children. Mapalo Morning Glow Academy establishes ongoing relationships with our children to provide scholarship funds to enable them to go to university, gain meaningful employment, and work to reverse the devastation of disease and poverty in their homeland. We embrace the African model on non-residential orphanages to keep from institutionalizing our children keeping them with their caretakers in a paternalistic culture.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Overview - What We Do.</image:title>
<image:caption>A Town Called Worthless Becomes a Blessing Our long term mission has been providing balanced nutrition, routine healthcare and top-quality education in the form of 1) an on-campus prep school; 2) sponsorships to top secondary schools for our graduates; and 3) sponsorship for attendance at Northrise University for our secondary school graduates that are accepted. We have accomplished this daily for the past 15 years for over 300 students per year! Phase 1 - Mapalo Morning Glow Academy and Care Center for Orphans Over 300 Zambian orphans receive balanced nutrition, routine healthcare, and attend a premium prep school that prepares students to take the national exam to enter secondary school.</image:caption>

Once an executive for the Zambian communication utility, Zesco, In 2003, Emil and his wife, Jane, decided to pursue a calling to ministry, and Emil entered Northrise University, where he earned a bachelor of arts in Christian ministries. Emil and Jane decided to bring their much-needed talents to Chipulukusu, one of the poorest compounds in northern Zambia, For some 20 years now they have tirelessly served a community of over 150,000 people, 10% of whom have been orphaned by the plagues of Africa. Emil is known locally as “The Mayor“ due to the impact he has had there. Over 1550 children have been rescued, restored and educated through Mapalo. Moreover,he has pastored a church, provided vocational classes and opportunities, taught English courses, and is solely responsible for changing the name of the compound from Chipulukusu, meaning “worthless”, to Mapalo, meaning “blessing.”</image:caption>

<image:caption>Josette Stellers has sat on the Board of Hope for Life as the treasurer since 2004. Josette and the founder of Hope for Life, Pete DeBaun, have been friends since the early 2000’s. The journey with Hope for Life began when Pete DeBaun brought his vision of helping children in the village of Mapalo back to the Wood River Valley in Idaho and formed “Fishing for Life.” Fishing for Life then became Hope for Life a few years later. Serving as treasurer from its inception has been a rewarding and fulfilling experience that has touched her entire family. In 2010, she and her two sons travelled to Zambia to work at the Mapalo Morning Glow Academy. What was to be a mission trip to help the director, teachers, and students turned into a life changing adventure. To witness the love of Jesus the people of Mapalo feel, hang out with the children and teachers, and spend time with the director and his family was incredible. Bringing home the friendships and rewards of being with the people of Mapalo, Ndola, Zambia, was the biggest blessing of all. Josette lives in Hailey, Idaho, in the Wood River Valley and works as an accountant/property manager at The Kirk Group. In her off time, she enjoys all that the mountains have to offer - trail running, mountain biking, snowshoeing. She also loves catching time with her kids when they are back at home.</image:caption>
